Do you want English clubs to do well in Europe?

I don't usually, and I expect most of you don't. But will that change when they introduce the new UEFA formats the season after next?

Basically the two FAs with the highest co-efficient one season will have an extra Champions League place the following year. So, if English teams are in the top two best performing countries in all competitions then there will be a total of 8 European places up for grabs, which should be within our means to aim for every season if we have a decent manager in charge.

Similar to SoH, back in the day when the English teams were full of British players, it had more national prestige if our teams did well.

Nowadays the teams are full of foreigners, so they don't feel quite as English anymore.

Absolutely hated that Chelsea won the CL - I wanted us to be the first London team to do that.

LIverpool, Man Utd and Spurs I fucking detest and want them to lose every single game they play in. And also in doing so have their players get injured and just hopefully all fucking crash and burn to hell.

Chelsea I fucking hate as a club but my old man supports them so I have to remain slightly impartial. Again, behind closed doors I want them to lose but I ,must admit I watched their game against Barca many moons back with my dad, when they done them and my old man was so excited it was hard for me not to be pleased.....But more for him.

Arsenal I actually don't mind. Since I was a kid I've always thought they were quite a smart club. Nice kit and loved their old badge when collecting Panini stickers. And to be honest, all of the Arsenal fans I know are decent football people. Not like those fucking muppets on Arsenal TV. So whilst I don't cheer them on in Europe it doesn't grate me to see them do well. Although I must admit, Arteta gets right on my tits and is starting to be a catalyst for me to put them in the first category.

Man City I like to see do well. They play mental football and are just a magnificent team. I did urge them to beat Madrid the other night. Plus, you never see any of them walking around our way unlike all the other cunts mentioned above. So if they do well, it doesn;t affect me.

Yeah, always thought the mass-celebrating by supposed West Ham fans that Chelsea had won the CL was cringe as hell.


Spurs qualifying for the CL (and most likely getting knocked out at the last 16 stage anyway) was much the lesser of two evils. Chelsea literally won the European Cup FFS.

I was more bothered by Chelsea winning the CL than Spurs missing out on qualifying for it the year of our play off win. I dislike them in almost equal measure.

I mentioned my stance on the 'big' clubs previously (I want them all to lose every game other than Man City)

But I do quite like it when a 'normal' team gets in and has a run, like Fulham, Villa, Middlesboro etc. however I don't necessary want them to win, just from a pure jealousy as a West Ham fan point of view. Yeah I'm flawed and I don't care. Same as if we are also in Europe on those rare occasions, I want every other English side to lose, just so we're last ones standing or as close as possible to it

I don't mind Citeh winning because it rubs the nose of those cheats from the other side of Manchester. Their supporters at least are proper football fans.

I’d want Spurs and Millwall to lose even if they were playing a Putin/Wagner 11. The rest of our clubs (Chelsea less so) I usually want to see win.

I used to want English clubs to do well as it was showcasing British football as a whole with the players coming from all over the U.K. in the main. Now I look at it as them bolstering their unfair advantage over other clubs in our league.....shame really.....plus the fact there are some right muggy cunts who like to gloat over something they've rarely put a lot of support into....they don't go but tell those who do from less successful clubs they are shit etc........

In Europe, yes, I do. It’s another matter in domestic competition.
Normally, I don’t give a toss about Spurs, Arsenal, etc., unless they are playing us, when I hope they lose.

I've built up such a hatred of clubs such as Liverpool, Tottenham, Chelsea, Manchester United etc that I take delight when they lose in European football.
Even Fulham I wanted to fuck up because of the arrogance if a couple of Fulham supporters I know.
When it was a smaller club from our part of England, like Ipswich or Norwich I'd wish them to do well.
I'm not sure if I'd root for Brighton or not should they qualify.
I'd probably want Man City to fuck up, although I have no animosity to them as they suffered the stigma of being the butt for the glory hunters who supported Man U for decades.

Sorry your lost your bet Tanman, but that result meant Spurs got dumped from the Champions League, to the Europa League, the following season, which I did enjoy.

The change in allocation of places, which potentially means more English teams in Europe, as a reason for English teams to do well in Europe, is nothing new.

Our Champions League allocation increased from 3 to 4 teams, based on our "Co Efficient of Performance," some years ago.

So while English teams doing well in Europe, is in our interests, I can't bring myself, to hope that certain English teams do well in Europe.

Not really fussed either way, not something I have the luxury to worry about, although who doesn't want to see Spurs lose!

What I would say though is I have more interest in the latter stages if an English club is still in it, example, tonight's game between the two Milan clubs doesn't really interest me, but if it was Milan vs Chelsea/Spurs/Manu I'd be more interested in it, if that makes sense.

The Chelsea win v Bayern still hurts even now, it was the same day we beat Blackpool and I had a £100 double on us and Bayern. How Bayern did not win that game I will never know. Massively cheered on Man Utd in 1999 as it was the first European win for ages. I also remember being pleased when Arsenal beat Parma. These days I am not really fussed.
